I'm baffled myself. We can easily move that to applicatinoDidFinishLaunching; the format strings should not be used yet before that point. Anyway, I doubt this is the problem though. This check should never be called, unless the user messes up the format string by manually editing the format string in the preference file, because the pref panel does this. I also thought that perhaps it could be the French lcoalization (as one of the reports was in French), but launching BibDesk in French did not give me any problem.
