Short war story to illustrate why I think this may be unrelated to webkit: Years ago, we had a crash that occurred frequently in a formatter (I think), but Mike and I couldn't reproduce it. Mike worked around it by overretaining the formatter or return value, if I recall correctly, and that reduced the frequency. However, Themis Matsoukas finally had a .bib file and sequence that reliably reproduced the crash, and it turned out to be a double autorelease in BDSKConverter. Totally unrelated code module, and the backtraces were absolutely worthless in tracking it down.
