I tended to feel the same, Nicholas, and sometimes still do. But I
started digging into my TeXLive distribution, and discovered a lot of
good stuff, the ERAE class and style in particular. Your editor also
counts a lot (I use TextMate, which I consider my best move since
BBEdit 7).
