Cool!  My solution was to use

global-ignores = *.o *.lo *.la #*# .*.rej *.rej .*~ *~ .#* .DS_Store  
*.pbxuser *.mode1 *.mode1v3 *.strings *.scriptSuite  
*.scriptTerminology *Help*.html *~.nib CodeSenseIndex

in ~/.subversion/config, but it's definitely better to avoid  
generating files in the source directory.
