Hi Vivek, oh how I would like to do the same thing!

However, as far as I can tell, these societies do not support the
widely-used technology standards that BibDesk uses for querying online
collections.

I find this ironic and fascinating, but I'll spare you my tales of the
technology lag one can find in academic computer science.

The best I can do is to tell you that if you are feeling adventurous
there is support for ACM and google scholar in the current nightly
builds of BibDesk - not as part of the search group interface, but as
part of the new "web group" interface, which lets you browse web
libraries like the ACM DL in BibDesk and it presents you with a list
of citations it can read from the current page, which you can then
import.

If you like, give it a try and let us know how it works for you, and
if it solves your problem. (And especially if not!)
