I don't think that's the problem. Try this:
1) copy this to clipboard
@article{testkey,
field = some one
author = "test author"}
2) choose New Publications from Clipboard...
3) choose Edit Data
I get two error dialogs. If I choose "Edit Data" for both, I get two
edit windows, then the sheet opens up.
