True. I like cover flow in conjunction with smart folders; it gives
you a decent way to look at thumbnails quickly, and for arbitrary
content (but I wish TextMate didn't screw up text UTI handling). The
notecard view is designed to be useful at a wide range of sizes, and I
think it does reasonably well.

Yes, absolutely. In the listing below, the kMDItem* attributes are
standard attributes that we or the system add to each entry when you
save a file. The author, keyword, and title attributes, for instance,
are standard Apple metadata that we specify. The more exotic ones
begin with net_sourceforge_bibdesk_*, and have more limited utility.
