Would it be possible / is there a way to unlink a file from a publication record? Once a file's been added, dragging it out creates an alias to it. The only option in the context menu is Move to Trash, which means the procedure I've had to use in order to unlink a file is to Move to Trash, then go to the Trash and move the file back to its original location.
