Yeah,  what I was thinking about was something like a script that  
right after importing an item from - say - LOC will just delete all  
Call Number entries empty the annotation, etc.
Obviously the right job for an Apple Script, but I just don't have  
the skills. I might eventually try my luck, until then the effort to  
manually take care of all this won't kill me.
