I've hacked together an AppleScript today to use ExifTool 
(http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool 
) to read XMP-bibtex data from PDFs written out by JabRef. There's  
been discussion before about whether there's a solution for reading or  
writing XMP metadata from PDFs; part of the problem has been the lack  
of a utility to do so. I'm throwing this out there for discussion.

Note that ExifTool cannot write XMP-bibtex without a  
custom .ExifTool_config file, but it looks like it would be possible  
to write such a config-file:
