Alex points out some of the most important features of BD, for  
managing your documents. One area that's often misunderstood is the  
area addressed above, that of attaching files to a record. There is an  
important distinction between the URL/local URL fields, and attached  
documents. The URL fields are for the BibTeX record, that is, whatever  
you fill in here will appear in your LaTeX output, assuming that the  
BibTeX output style use shows these fields. If you want to associate a  
record with a link to a web address or PDF or other document, as Alex  
points out, drop it on the item's listing in the main table. Or, when  
the record is open, there is a large space for attached files; right- 
clicking on this space will give you an opportunity to select a file  
with the usual dialogues; or you can drop a file or URL on this area.  
You can attach any number of files. Quicklook works, too, if you pull  
up the contextual menu, and you have system 10.5.

As much as BD is for coordinating with LaTeX and BibTeX, it is also an  
excellent file manager.
