Interesting, but it finishes up introducing a cite key which is 
different from the one I get (ie the cite refence eg 
2008MNRAS.391L.113G) with my current approach.  I need to explore this 
one more.

That's definitely an improvement.  I can view the link to the PDF in the 
Bibdesk web window and drag the link onto the edit window file pane.  No 
need for intermediate browsing or file saving.

Thanks.  I'm adopting the two techniques under (4) and (10), above, and 
looking further at the z39.50 search process.
