The booktitle duplication is based on bibtex as described in btxdoc, and is just a service for some peculiarities in that definition. If we would get this RFE now, the duplication feature would most definitely be rejected. If it weren't for the existing precendence it would be removed. So it will certainly not be 'enhanced'. The proper way to do this kind of things now is through script hooks, which you can customize as much as you want.
