And there is refbase that I use myself and like a lot, but I don't know how much you know about webservers, sql-databases etc. http://refdb.sourceforge.net/ and http://www.aigaion.nl/ might also be interesting There are for sure more online tools, both commercial and non- commercial.... > 2) How would be the workflow for the described procedure above > (online bibliography <-> BibDesk)? I think the mayor problem is to define where and in which format yur "master-database" is stored. I am using myself the approach that I have a local (!) BibTeX-File that I am editing with BibDesk and where I can use all its great features when it comes to editing BibTeX- files. This file is then used to feed www.deabib.org. You could use a similar approach if it matters most that you can access your bibliography from everywhere. If you define your the online version as master, you can only use those bibtex-types and fields that are supported by the import/export function of the online-tool. So smart groups, or fields like "SuperWichtigLesenJetzt" probably can't be used. Maybe the best idea is to try citeulike and see if it fits your needs, how it behaves when you import and export data etc - depends a lot on the details of your workflow....
