That's it. Yes, I have assigned them a shortcut. Indeed, it is all
exactly as you say. The funny thing being, that upon installation of
the shortcut these menu items are not immediately visible. They
appear quite later, perhaps I needed first to press option and
choosing a menu, before they show up. However, once visible they
stay there forever. Makes it all quite confusing.
The trick by assigning a shortcut using Option as modifier key for
the show menu items hides those superfluous items. And that
additional shortcut is disfunct. All a bit awkward indeed.
That shortcut should work. Though perhaps that depends on how you
assign the shortcuts. And perhaps it will only look at visible items
when it checks for shortcuts. Though I think that would be a bug (of
Apple, not us).
Thanks Christiaan for this useful info! I'm amazed about your
knowledge, I would never have guessed.

Well, I as involved in implementing it.

Hi all,
Strange commands such as "Show Fix PDF and URL Links" menu commands
appear in my AppleScript menu of BibDesk, only because I have some
script named "Fix PDF and URL Links.scpt" installed (in "$HOME/
Library/Application Support/BibDesk/Scripts"). Choosing such a menu
command results in the AppleScript being opened in the Script
Editor. This happens only for some of my AppleScripts installed,
AFAIC for no apparent reason or obvious difference among the
scripts.
Does anyone know how to get rid of these superfluous menu commands
and perhaps can someone explain how they came into existence in the
first place?
Thanks.
Andreas
Have you assigned shortcuts to these scripts? The extra "Show..."
menu
items are usually hidden, and only shown (replacing the normal item)
when you hold the Option key (that's a feature). However this
behavior
assumes that the normal item does not have a shortcut. I would not
know how to avoid that when the normal item has a shortcut. Apple
does
not give us any way to do that. You can hide them yourself by
assigning the same shortcut as the normal item but a different
modifier (typically, adding an Option).
