I just switched to Snow Leopard (I know rather late, but I was waiting for some
programs to be updated). I have the bibtex database on a network attached
storage device (Lacie unix based) that is mounted on my mac via smb:. I find
that sometimes now I am unable to get bibdesk to open a file in preview (or
acrobat for that matter) and sometimes it works. This behavior is reproducible
and seems to vary by file. I have not carefully tracked down exactly what is
happening, but I thought I would first ask if anyone else has seen this
problem. I have been naming files with Author - Full Paper Title. Could
something in the title be breaking under Snow Leopard. I find I am unable to
open the files that exhibit this symptom even in the finder by double clicking
for instance. I am however, able to copy them to my (hfs) mac desktop and open
them at will. Is this some known Snow Leopard bug and if so what
characteristics (length, special characters etc.) give rise to this problem.
The weird thing is that I can see the pdf files in the preview pane within
BibDesk implying that this is a finder bug, but I would like to tap the
collective wisdom of this list to try and track down the cause. Thanks for
your help.
