BibTeX itself will choke on non-ASCII characters in the cite key, so this is 
the problem; non-ASCII characters elsewhere should be just fine.  This is one 
of the reasons I generally prefer to download RIS citations instead of BibTeX, 
since they're more likely to be correct.
