To both questions, my answer is no. I'd say people should restrict their 
expectation to read and then only to possibly add some notes. Skim might be 
what people need to have ported to the iPad and BibDesk needs only to be able 
to transfer its bib-file and the linked pdf's to the iPad. I know that many 
might think otherwise and yes, I do also regularly add new records to my data 
base while reading. But I do not think it feasible to expect more for the 
reasons Christiaan has already pointed out.

And yes, to get Christiaan some iPad if that really would make a difference is 
worth-considering.

Just some thoughts.
