Yes I do.

Hmm, I was sloppy with my test cases. All these ways of launching BibDesk from 
the command line produce correct previews:

(SHELL=/bin/zsh open -a BibDesk)

(SHELL=/bin/tcsh open -a BibDesk)

(SHELL=/bin/bash open -a BibDesk)

BUT, if I open BibDesk from the Finder, it does not. So it may not have to do 
with the SHELL variable, but something else that differs between the terminal 
environment and the Finder environment. My ~/.MacOSX/environment.plist 
contained some settings, but even after I remove that file and restarted the 
Finder, the same thing happens: pdflatex cannot be invoked.
