Yes, it is indeed forced. Ever since we introduced the linked files. Because 
there can be multiple files for each item, those will be based on the exact 
same information, and therefore almost certainly would overwrite each other 
otherwise, which is obviously bad. 

However, I don't see why you would want to turn this off, it's destructive so 
we would never support it.

The whole point is that the file names CAN be non-unique (otherwise). Whether 
they are usually unique (for you) is completely irrelevant. And as I said 
above, there is a good chance that they overlap. When you use %u0 or %n0, 
nothing will be added when the file name IS already unique, so your reason 
against it is invalid.
