I have no idea, and I have never heard about it. We most certainly don't do
it from our side, the only time we reset preferences is when you do so
explicitly from the preference window. We also don't do anything special
when adding new entries, we don't even set any preference.
Preferences are handled rather opaquely by the system. So any bug must come
from Apple. Perhaps you should file a bug with them.
