Even if I use

without doing

I still cannot get the citations in the latex preview. 

For example, I get




when I add two citations
\cite{bhat-etal-2020-word}
\cite{chen-gimpel-2020-learning}

The first citation is the paper itself and it is correctly referred there. I 
guess <<File>> is only looking at the current record and
not all references in the bibdesk library?

Any ideas?
