I've got two bikes that I ride regularly. One is a bianchi castro valley 58cm. The other is a tandem I ride with my gf. It is a burley paso doble. I've noticed that I get some back and wrist pain riding the burley that I don't get riding the bianchi. I broke out my tape measure to figure out what's different between the two of them. There's about a 4-5cm difference in the bar height versus the saddle on the burley. On the bianchi the difference is only about 1-2cm. I can't really drop the saddle down a great deal w/o losing a full extension of my leg.
The bianchi has a 15 degree rise stem. The burley MIGHT have a 6 degree rise (if that). I was considering replacing the stem on the burley with either an adjustable stem like this one: http://jensonusa.com/store/product/ST308B06-Kalloy+Road+Adjustable+Rise+Stem.aspx or a fixed stem 30 degree, like this one: http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/ST295A00-Ritchey+Comp+Stem.aspx Does anyone had any other suggestions?
