Properly installed almost any headset will last a long time. I bought
a Mountain Bike-brand name-in 1982 (?) with a Tange Levin and it was
still installed and in good shape in 2006 when I sold it. I've used
A9s, Campys, Shimanos and unbranded sets as well and as long as the
head tube is properly prepared and the headset installed properly
almost any headset will work well. The killer is looseness in the HS.
I back the screwed race into the locknut rather than the reverse.
Works fine and I never have a loose headset.
