<http://jharkhandnews.blogspot.com/> Watch TV via broadband soon (Jharkhand) Get a broadband connection and enjoy television programmes. The state unit of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has plans to offer this facility under Broadband Multiplay soon. Available only in Calcutta and Pune at present, the facility would no longer remain confined to the urban areas and would soon explore rural markets in the state. The task of setting up infrastructure across the state has begun. Officials of the PSU are also holding talks with television channels whose programmes could be made available through the Internet via the Internet Protocol Television (IPTV). "The facility should be launched by September," said Sanjay Kumar, deputy general manager, planning, BSNL (Jharkhand Circle). Initially, IPTV would be launched in Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Dhanbad. Later, the service would be extended to all the other cities, including rural areas across the state. The broadband connection would have a speed of 8MB per second. According to Kumar, national news channels, as well other entertainment channels are being roped in under the project. Subscribers would have to pay Rs 250 per month for the connection. They would not need a cable connection to view the television channels. But they would have to buy a set top box to connect the television set. Another connection would be required for the personal computer. Broadband Multiplay would carry all the three components — voice, data and video — thereby making it possible for accessing the Internet and viewing television. The system would also facilitate video conferencing. This, officials said, would help executives, social workers and government officials collaborate with each other. BSNL targets to register one lakh subscribers in the state. telegraphindia.com/1080407/jsp/jharkhand/story_9104349.jsp <http://indiaenews.com/australia/20080403/108483.htm> ** ** Jharkhand TV @ * **jharkhand.blip.tv* http://www.indian-tv.blogspot.com/ .
