Dear All, The RTE Bill introduced in Rajya Sabha in 2008 has been passed unanimously on 20th July. Now this will be introduced in the Lok Sabha. The prime motive behind the Bill is to enhance privatisation & commercialisation of Education by introducing Private individuals to open Schools and make profit plus undo what was done by the judgement of Supreme Court in Unnikrishanan case in 1993 to make Education a Fundamental Right of every child. These are all effects of World Bank diktat of Structural Adjustments since 1991 operated in India through the then Finance Minister Dr. Man Mohan Singh in the area of Education & Health. You can understand this from the proliferation of private Schools and forced/ designed fall in quality of Education in Govt Schools sine then. Similarly in Health care.
