Samay Live: Motihari, Aug 16 A minor girl was allegedly sacrificed by sorcerers at Khagni village of Bihar's East Champaran district, the police said.
Superintendent of Police Umesh Kumar said the body of Jhunni Kumari (7), the daughter of Ram Lal Mahto, was found yesterday in a gunny bag from a sugarcane field in the village. The girl was missing since August 12, Kumar said adding that the girl's head was tonsured and marked with vermillion on her forehead. A part of her leg was chopped, he said. Shanti Devi, the girl's mother, who suspected that her daughter was the victim of sorcery, lodged a complaint against Mogal Sah, Ram Lakhan Mahto and Ram Pukar Mahto.Ram Pukar Mahto was arrested and raids were conducted to nab others, the police said. Two people, including a witch doctor, have been arrested. A villager found the body of Gudia Saturday. She was a resident of Khagni village in Motihari and had gone missing two days ago. The family alleged that the girl was sacrificed to appease a Hindu god. “The girl’s throat was silt, her legs chopped off, her head was tonsured and there was a red mark on it. It looks like a clear cut case of human sacrifice,” a police officer said. A police complaint has been filed and six people named as accused.
