You all may have remembered that I posted my comments on the New Jersey TIP
last month. By Law The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commision DVRPC
opens up public comments on the Transportation Improvement Program
(TIP). The TIP is kind of a must do list for all federally funded
transportation projects in our region, if its not on TIP it doesn't get
built. For more information on how a project gets funded go to www.dvrpc.org

This Year the NJ TIP was being updated, I commented on a few projects
including one called the Route 38 Corridor Study, my comments stated
bicycle improvements needed to be included. Well the Regional Transportation
Committee (of the DVRPC)took my advice and they will recommended to the
DVRPC Board to include this in the corridor study.

Public comments were few and far between only about 4 pages worth, which
helped weigh mine, which took up a half page.

More people making more suggestions to include bike facilities on the record
will get noticed. Our next chance to influence transportation spending comes
next month when the transportation enhancements projects are submitted for
selection. In the future I will try to keep everyone informed when these
critical comment periods open up. Its easy and fun.
Usually there is no need to attend meetings, most public commentery programs
have an email component.
