This is a message from Councilman David Cohen concerning the contreversial and apparently unpopular billboard bill. To find out why so many citizens and organizations are against this bill go to http://www.devbob.com/bill629/background September 16 2001 Dear Friend As you know Bill #000629 was held at Thursday September 13 City Council Meeting. It now appears uncertain whether Bill 000658 the Venders Bill and Bill 000657 the political poster bill will come up for a vote the Thursday September 20th therefore Our full focus, should be on Bill #000629, the zoning standing, or so-called Billboard Bill. We can successfully block Bill #000629. So far City Council has heard out cry. If we maintain our vigilance and continue to communicate our opposition to members of council through visits faxes emails letters and phone calls, then we will be successful. Indeed now is a good time to widen our coalition and get as may others to call council as well. Also there will be an Education Committee hearing (Resolution #010531) on Monday Sept. 24 at 1PM to investigate whether Edison Schools Inc. other privatization efforts can resolve the financial and scholastic crisis facing the Phila. Public Schools. So for both Bill #000629 and the public schools, come to the City Council meeting this Thursday September 20th at 9:30Am to oppose Bill #000629 and come on Monday September 24th at 1PM for teh Education Committee hearing at 1PM to fight against privatization of our public schools.
