in today's Daily News is an editorial calling for more foward thinking Fairmount Park Commissioners (see link below) because apparently it's time for commissioners to be "elected":
http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/news/opinion/2988028.htm When this whole debate over WRD happened & the resulting compromise which opened the lower half to cars after noon, it was because of the park staff & commissioners. simply put they chose private auto drivers over bikes and peds even when their own research showed opening the lower half would created a potentially lethal situation. It was exactly the type of non-leadership & not thinking on behalf of the park user that the DN editorial sites. A whole bunch of letters - from individuals & groups- to the DN on this issue & stating we'd like to see it made safe BEFORE there is a fatality (another article in todays' DN features the Roosevelt Bld as the nation's 2nd most dangerous road with 26 fatalities last year - many ped) might yeild some positive response. the park commission doesn't really like negative press & the DN is becoming quite the voice of the people's concerns & problems with local gov. ********************************** Sue McNamara Tancredi Philadelphia Coordinator Tri-State Transportation Campaign 327 South 43rd Street Philadelphia, PA 19104 215.243.2026 phone 215.243.2029 fax [EMAIL PROTECTED] ---- You are receiving this because you are subscribed to the Bicycle Coalition of the Delaware Valley list named "bike."
