I noticed that the Military Ridge trail that runs parallel to Hwy 18/151 is finally under repairs. At least one of the bridges looks finished. From my understanding, this stretch of the trail is to be paved. I can't wait until the completion and eventual connection to the Southwest trail! Further west along the Military Ridge trail, by about 15 miles or so, a portion of the trail will be closed. It is the portion of the trail in the Village of Mount Horeb between 8th and 4th streets. All trail traffic will be detoured south one block to Garfield Street. The work that is being done here has to do with removing a part of railroad history. Along this stretch of the trail, bikers pass under an old timber construction bridge that was built in the early 20th century. The intention of this bridge was to provide a way for pedestrian traffic to get safely across the railroad tracks. It will be sometime within the next week or so that this old bridge will be torn down and destroyed to make way for a new bridge to better handle "traffic" (translate this to be automobile traffic). And so if you have always liked riding through this section of the Military Ridge trail, I would suggest that you make your time with the old bridge very soon, for it will not be around much longer.
