> It just so happens that tonight is the monthly meeting of the
Pedestrian-
>Bicycle-Motor Vehicle Commission. Got an idea you'd like the City to
consider
>that would improve bicycling in Madison? Come to the meeting tonight
...

I read this too late to attend the meeting, but thought I'd share a
thought that crossed my mind anyway.

One thing I think needs to be given closure is the continuing problem of
safety in the S.W. bike path's intersections with streets - esp, @
Glenway St. and Odana Blvd, and especially with school opening
approaching. It's just a matter of time before a tragedy occurs. There
is still a lot of confusion about whether cars have to stop for
bicyclists or not. They are legally required to stop for pedestrians who
are attempting to cross, as I understand it, but not people riding bikes.

Regardless of the legalities, I think the city needs to take additional
action to make these two locations more safe for bicyclists. To do that,
I wanted to make the pitch at the next PBMVC meeting that the city ought
install "yield to bicyclists and pedestrian" signs facing motorists in
each direction on those two streets, at a minimum. Preferably, I'd like
to see such yield signs at all the bike path/road crossings, but for
sure at Odana and Glenway.
