Bikies,

As some of you may know, I am now the chair of the Ped/Bike/Motor Vehicle Commission
(PBMVC) after Rob Kennedy stepped down from all of his Committee/Commission
appointments to spend more time with his family. I was officially elected chair at
the June PBMVC meeting.

This also created a vacancy on PBMVC. Richard Mahal, the 1st alternate, was appointed
to fill the rest of Rob Kennedy's term. Bob Schaefer was moved from 2nd to first
alternate. Matt Logan, one of many bike advocates to apply for PBMVC appointment this
year, is the new 2nd alternate.

What does all this have to do with the UW ramp? As chair, I or my designee gets to
serve on several other Committee/Commissions. So I appointed myself to the Long Range
Transportation Plan Commission, The East Rail Corridor Plan Advisory Committee, and
the Joint West Campus Area Committee.

The Joint West Campus Plan Advisory Committee's last meeting was this past Wednesday.
Things got a little tense at times as it was clear some of the representatives from
Shorewood Hills are against the project. I made it clear that I was very skeptical of
the need for this ramp and brought up data and concerns from the UW Master Planning
process of 1996. A good resource for the proposed ramp is the Walker Report which is
basically the UW commissioned report that is being used as the justification for the
ramp. The Walker Report is on the web at www.walkerparking.com/madison/. Please look
it over and post comments to bikies.
