Not to distract anyone from the election for DA which is the central point of Mike's message (if you missed that, please read it again). As an aside, the case against the Fitchburg police is not altogether clear. In at least one instance they did cite a motorist for running a cyclist off the road and the motorist was fined for reckless driving. Since I was involved, I can report that I was impressed by the way the Fitchburg Police and the traffic court conducted itself. One thing I noticed is that there is a high burden proof the city must meet in order for traffic violations to stick when the citation is issued in response to citizen reports. I imagine that their job is made easier when the cyclist(s) involved maintain a cooperative and nonconfrontational attitude. Easier said than done I know but whenever I feel my blood pressure rise, I try to recall something Tom Huber once told me about encounters with motorists, "these are not generally teachable moments."
