A reminder that there is a meeting at the Parks Department Office Wed., November 13th, 5:15pm 4318 Robertson Rd. East side between Milwaukee St. and Cottage Grove Rd., East of Hwy 51.
On the agenda is the question of HOW (not WHETHER) to implement a user fee for the Capital City Trail in the form of a required trail pass. The fee is intended to generate revenue for the maintenance of the Trail. The Bike Fed has fielded at least one call from newspaper reporters asking if there would be a surge of bicyclists in opposition to the user fee and what their position is. I couldn't tell him whether many bicyclists would attend the meeting, but it reminded me that the members of the list would probably be interested in knowing when and where it is. Although the County Parks Department is not in a particularly accessible place (by bike), the city bike map shows a ped/bike overpass across HWY 51 between Dempsey Road and the Service Rd for 51, just south of Milwaukee Street. So, if you're coming from somewhere west of 51 (such as, oh, somewhere along the Capital City Trail), and you like to avoid cars as much as possible on your way to the meeting, that might be the best place to cross that busy non-toll road known to the state as HWY 51 and to some other folks as Stoughton Road.
