I saw this article on the web, and just for kicks I went to the discussion
list. Sadly, although some people understood the moral issues involved in
using
up our scarce resources, many others had the attitude: "Butt out of my
life" or
"I'm not going to drive a big honking SUV to protect my family from the other
big SUVs on the road." (This attitude I have labeled the new Cold War/MAD.)
And
some pretty other scary attitudes for people who claim to follow Christian
values.

But.... there is hope.  Here is one response I found:

"Jesus would not drive any kind of vehicle that costs thousands of dollars. He
lived in poverty and told us to give our money to the poor. He would walk - or
maybe ride an old second-hand bike.

I applaud your campaign - but you are not being aggressive enough. We need to
get Americans out of their cars and on to their feet - or bikes."
