Some Dane County bicyclists are mad about a plan to charge them a fee to use
the Capital City Bike Trail.
The bicyclists commute to work on the trail, which is located on the southern
edge of Madison, and say they shouldn't have to pay anything.
But Dane County's parks director defends the plan because the trail is for
recreation, and the county charges user fees on recreation trails.
Ken LePine says the fee will help the county maintain the trail. The proposed
cost of the fee is $10 for an annual pass or $3 daily.
The county's park commission approved the fee plan last year but never
implemented it.
