Dear Ms. Falk,
Like many others, I feel that it is terribly unfair to tax
bicycle commuters by charging a fee for use of the Capital City
Trail. With the cost of parking ramps alone running around
$30,000 per space, each person who commutes by bicycle rather than by
car saves the county a great deal of money. It is also unfair
that the County Parks Department is required to bear the cost of
maintenance for a trail that is largely used as a transportation
route. Clearly, the money should come from transportation funds,
not the Parks Department.
I urge you to work towards finding a way to procure
transportation funds for maintenance of the Capital City Trail, and
relieve both bicyclists and the County Parks Department of this
burden.
Sincerely,
Scott Ellington
