It was paid for in part by FEDERAL transportation funds; it was the Federal Hwys Admin. that ruled that fees are legal for the trail. It is now part of a STATE trail system. The original intent was to link two other state trails, the Military Ridge and Glacial Drumlin trails. It is owned and operated by Dane COUNTY parks. It serves LOCAL MUNICIPALITIES of Madison, Fitchburg, Verona, and Dunn.
