I can only concur and hope we don't end up in the same boat. My hubby's brother, sister-in-law, and our niece live in NJ. They would love to eat organic foods and shop locally. But it's impossible! Everything requires a long ride through snarls of ugly traffic. They are thrilled to see some "organic" produce showing up on the shelves of their local, what, Costco or whatever passes for a produce place out there.
The saddest thing to me? I said we'd love to bike with our niece. Her mom replied, "Oh yeah, we have this REALLY long trail we can get to, it's FIVE MILES LONG!" Of course we have to drive, first... That's my commute by bike to work. Let's keep fighting the good fight. The hard part? I talk to people at work who take great pride in the fact they live 30-60 miles out of Madison and drive in each day. One guy told me today, "I live 45 miles out of Madison because it only takes me 50 minute to drive into work! That's nothing like my commute on the coast." Like the old frog boiling in water analogy... > "There is no single greater threat to our way of life in New Jersey than > the unrestrained, uncontrolled development that has > jeopardized our water supplies, made our schools more crowded, our roads > congested and our open space disappear." > > -- -- -- -- -- -- -- _______________________________________________ Bikies mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.danenet.org/mailman/listinfo/bikies
