>From Dane County's Department of Planning and Development:

Two meetings to get the public involved with the Dane County comprehensive
Plan Process [the agenda and events will be the same at both meetings] will
occur on Wednesday, February 12 and Thursday, February 13, 7pm each night
at the Alliant Energy Center [formerly known as the Expo Center]

Wisconsin's comprehensive planning legislation (aka "Smart Growth Act")
requires counties and municipalities to develop comprehensive plans [and
for land use (zoning) decisions to actually be consistent with their comp
plans - what a radical concept!]. Dane Co intends to have their final plan
completed by mid 2006, and they have already begun the process.

"To develop the comprehensive plan, Dane County will rely on working groups
in three areas: 1) natural resources, agriculture, and open space; 2)
Housing and economic development; and 3) transportation and utilities [and
community facilities]."

"The kick off events will provide an opportunity for citizens and local
elected officials to:
-learn about the comprehensive planning legislation and planning process
-meet members of the comprehensive planning steering committee
-express an interest in serving on the working groups, as well as exploring
other avenues to involvement.

You could call the Dane Co Department of Planning & development for more
information, but the best way to find out more about what's going on is to
show up at one of the two meetings.
