This is a reminder that the CITY meeting on Transport 2020 will be this coming
Tuesday evening, Jan 21 at 6:30 pm.

Below is the original message that Chuck sent out with details about why this
is important. The County passed Transport 2020. Now we need the city to sign
on. Please make a call or send an email. Or.... show up!

from Fred Bartol, of DART (Dane Alliance for Rail Transit); remember, more
alternatives to cars is good for bikes in many ways....so please contact your
county supervisors and city alders, BEFORE their respective meetings on the
issue this Thursday 01/09, and Tuesday 01/21.....

Last fall the Transport 2020 advisory committee concluded more than two
years' intensive analysis of transit alternatives, unanimously recommending a
multi-modal regional transit system that combines expanded bus service,
commuter rail, and, in a later phase, a downtown Madison streetcar.

A resolution endorsing that recommendation and creating an implementation
task force is scheduled for action by the Dane County Board at its next
meeting, Thursday evening, January 9 (7:30 p.m. in Room 201, City-County
Bldg.). A parallel resolution is scheduled for action by the Madison Common
Council on Tuesday evening, January 21 (presentation on Transport 2020 at
5:45, also in Room 201 CCB).

Although the resolution does not commit the region to any particular transit
investment, it establishes a process and a framework for a more detailed
study of the design, environmental impacts, financing, and administration of
a regional transit system along the lines laid out by Transport 2020. Those
interested in seeing the city and county move forward with regional transit
planning that includes rail are encouraged to contact their County Board
supervisors and, in the case of Madison residents, their Madison alders,
and/or register at the meetings on the 9th and 21st.

Full and summary versions of the final Transport 2020 report, along with the
text of the resolution, are available online at www.transport2020.net. For
further information, contact the Dane Alliance for Rail Transit at 251-6126
