I am happy to report that the City Council last night voted 14-3 to approve
the Transport 2020 plan. Of course, the hard part is going to be finding
money to proceed to the next steps....

We have all had the (dis?)pleasure of reading Mike Roach's arguments
against rail. No need to rehash all that, except....

There has been much made about the delays to (car) traffic that might
happen as trains cross major ateries. As I pointed out to the City Council
last night, there are going to be delays to traffic whether you put trains
in or not. My guess the delays are going to be much LESS if people are on
the train than each in a car!

This quote appeared in Mike Ivey's column in the Cap Times yesterday.

***********
With trains expected to roll every 30 minutes during peak times, Roach said
the traffic jams created at the railroad crossings will fray the nerves of
drivers and quickly turn public sentiment against all forms of mass transit.

"Imagine how upset people are going to get sitting in their cars, wasting
gas, waiting for a half-empty train to cross the road," he said.
***************

To which I'd like to scream:

AS OPPOSED TO HOW UPSET PEOPLE ARE BEING DELAYED AND WASTING GAS ALONE IN
THEIR LINCOLN NAVIGATOR WHEN STUCK BEHIND A FORD EXPEDITION WITH ONE PERSON
INSIDE?
"Never doubt that a small group of dedicated individuals working together
can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." --
