As Tim noted, the State Journal also is trying to scare people
with this idea.

I wonder if either Mr. Roach or the State Journal editorial board
are considering the impact of another 100,000 dane county residents
on the frustration level of commuters.

The North Mendota Parkway committee
(see http://www.danenet.org/bcp/northbelt.html for background).
are planning on another 50,000 people moving into the study
area over the next 10 to 50 years. And most of them will probably
be traveling into Madison on a daily basis.

Thats just for the area North of Lake Mendota. The full build-out
for Madison's East-side plan and West-side plan will probably add
yet another 50,000 residents.

As noted in previous posts, over 90% of the motor vehicles in our
are are SOV (single occupant vehicles). Following current trends,
that means 10s of thousands of more vehicles on city streets in
the coming decades. Do you think that will impact travel times?

Of course, we could always expand our city streets. What would
be the impact of that? Right now Madison is working on rebuilding
East Washington Avenue. That project will take about 10 years.
That means that there will be construction delays for 10 years.
Strange, I haven't head anyone bitching about that.

Oh by the way, that project will consume most of the transportation
money in the city for about 10 years.
