I am sorry I can not make the meeting tonight on Pheasant Branch Road.
But as I often use that route as an "urban escape route" I wanted to put
my two cents in. I know the right of way is narrow, and made narrower by
some old oaks. I would hate to see good healthy trees removed, so let's
try to avoid that if we can. As an adult/experienced cyclist I think
wide curb lanes are the "least" improvement that would still benefit
cyclists greatly. A wide curb lane is 13 to 14' wide. This allows cars
and bicycles to share one lane fairly comfortably. You do not want to
install 15' wide lanes for any great distance because it begins to
appear as two lanes to drivers, and they use it as such. A better
improvement would be an actual bike lane of course, but that may not be
feasible without removing healthy trees.

Also, please do not labor under the misconception that putting the
western trail through the PBConservancy will remove all biking from
Pheasant Branch Road. This road is a very popular route for big and
small group rides by experienced adult cyclists whose main interest is
covering some miles on country roads. They will not (for the most part)
use the trail. The trail I believe, will be used by walkers and bikers
from the surrounding neighborhoods who are trying to access downtown or
another neighborhood or just out to enjoy the conservancy. Hope your
meeting is well attended and productive tonight.
