GET A SECOND OPINION ON THE MARQUETTE INTERCHANGE
02/25/03
What you see over my shoulder is an image of what Milwaukee's Marquette
Interchange would look like with a 950-Million dollar reconstruction, the
biggest public-funded project in state history. Governor Doyle has money in
his budget to start the process. The problem is, what is needed to fix the
nterchange...and it does need fixing...is only about 550-Million dollars.

The additional money is there because the Department of Transportation
wants to build the interchange bigger and wider and taller than the city of
Milwaukee wants. That's right, the city of Milwaukee doesn't want the fancy
new freeway and it makes a compelling argument why it's unnecessary.

So why are we spending the money? Good question. There are all kinds of
problems with this issue but one very good solution. Governor Doyle should
get a second opinion on the redesign plan. It's that simple. Ask another
consultant to take a look at the plan. We urge Governor Doyle to do so.
