I received this letter in a round about way, but the basic message is that a
really great group needs our help. Wheels for Winners helps kids get bikes
through community service. They are in desperate need of help. Any assistance
of time or money would be very appreciated (although they probably need money
more than anything else.)

Please do what you can to keep them going.

Your love of bicycling and supporting the environment and youth in our
community is well known. I am writing you to ask for your assistance to
help me find resources to support our group Wheels for Winners: The
Earn-a-Bike Program a local community service non-profit group which
works in all of these areas of interest. I have been involved with
Wheels for over three years now and constantly work to promote and
support the group.

The basic idea is to help youth in our community by having them earn a
bike through either a 15 hour community service commitment or by a 15
hour reading improvement commitment. When they have completed their
requirement they come to our shop to choose one of our restored bikes
and receive a free helmet and lock and safe riding tips. Behind the
scenes we are also saving hundreds or bikes and parts destined for
landfills and provide a very unique opportunity for volunteers from
teens to seniors and even a few disabled folks to repair bicycles,
maintain our shop and help with administration duties.

We have existed for over 10 years, but the economy has put us in a
fiscal crisis which threatens to end the group this year.

Please call or email me as soon as you can to help me keep the founders
dream alive.

Sincerely,
Patrick Pecher - President
