At Thursday's BUILD Advisory Committee meeting Mark Olinger said that Mayor Dave is considering switching the reconstruction schedule segment 1 (Blair to First) with 5 (hwy 30 East to Thierer, I think) to give more time to come up with the best design. Segment 5 would start next year instead of 1. This would be especially wise since the BUILD committee approved a $25,000 BUILD grant for the City's E. Washington (Blair to 1st) "Gateway" plan (to tie together existing efforts and develop a unified vision for this section of E. Washington). Starting a planning effort with a tranportation plan already fixed in place would unnecessarily limit the options available for consideration - and potentially rule out some good ones. I encourage EINPC and others to voice support for this switch. Timing is important, because the final plans are set to go to DOT by the end of June. Steve Steinhoff
