However, do you think just even remotely possible that this whole idea about gas prices remaining
way below the inflationary rate has been a "little" PR stunt to give our great consumer society
a warm fuzzy feeling that it is still okay to consume tons of gasoline with our super-sized
SUV's (SOV's) as long as the prices are kept low. I mean, what does the average consumer
care about first and foremost? Most likely, their pocketbook and bank account balance. The
environment probably comes around 9th or 10th, unfortunately.
When you open the USA Today story, you see these two paragraphs:
"But prices are below their all-time high when adjusted for inflation. = The average price in March 1981 of $1.41 a gallon would be $2.87 today."
