One of my enduring memories of Bill Hauda was busting my butt to put an issue of the Wisconsin Bicyclist together, along with a number of other volunteers, while then executive director Bill Hauda sat at his desk with his feet up, reading the newspaper for hours on end. Was this 1994 or 1995? He lifted not one finger to contribute. It was positively bizarre, particularly when contrasted with the super-human effort that predecessor Marcia Miquelon put into her "half-time" position, and that successor Jeanne Hoffman put into hers. I'm not sure what Hauda's agenda might be in running for the board, but somehow I doubt that his interests coincide substantially with those of the BFW membership.

As for Mark Shahan, he's been deeply involved in bicycle transportation advocacy since 1993 or earlier. He was a founding member of the Bicycle Transportation Alliance and was the action coordinator thereof for several years. I can't remember a single meeting that he missed. He also served on the bike-ped subcommittee of the Madison transportation commission for several years, and has been a bicycle commuter for many years. I seem to recall that Hauda drove a jeep to the BFW office on those occasions when he graced the office with his presence, but I could be wrong-- it might have been a full-size sedan.

Disclaimer: I'm the guy who dropped him from the bikies list, which I started back in... 1993?... and administered for at least five years. In those years, he was indeed the only person to be dropped from the list, this a little while after he abruptly resigned his position on the BFW. Come to think of it, his offense was posting repeated personal attacks... sort of like this one I'm writing now.
